2023 Latin America & Aotearoa

Savor the vivid memories of our extraordinary expedition to Aotearoa with Whakahono Iwi O Te Ao - Connecting Natives Across the World. Accompanied by esteemed guests from diverse indigenous communities, we embarked on a 15-day odyssey led by traditional educators. Together, we immersed ourselves in the cultural splendour of Aotearoa, weaving unforgettable memories and fostering enduring bonds.

Our exhibition provided a platform for indigenous whānau to delve into the establishment of crucial Māori institutions like Kohunga Reo, Kura Kaupapa, and national health organizations that support Māori communities. Beyond celebration, it ignited discussions on how similar initiatives could be implemented elsewhere, ensuring language revitalization and the preservation of indigenous culture worldwide. This exchange of ideas not only enriched our understanding but also laid the groundwork for a global exchange of knowledge, promising to uplift indigenous communities worldwide.

Explore diverse narratives, bridging continents and celebrating the rich tapestry of global heritage.

It was especially significant that our journey began at the Treaty of Waitangi grounds. Here, our Chilean rōpu had the invaluable opportunity to grasp the essence of the Tiriti O Waitangi and the fundamental principle that it embodies—a partnership, not just a form of governance, but one of protection and guardianship. Central to this understanding is the recognition of 'Rangatira' as signifying governance or guardianship in Māori culture, emphasizing collaboration and mutual respect. This foundational principle continues to resonate strongly and shape discussions in modern Aotearoa.

Global Harmony: Music's Universal Language

Dr. Mario Carvajal Castillo, in his role as Director of the Music Pedagogy Course at the Academy of Christian Humanism University, brings his remarkable musical expertise to enrich our Te Tai Wananga whānau.

Sandra Caqueo, the first indigenous Aymara soprano singer, shares her extraordinary talent with our community. Sandra's journey is deeply rooted in her Aymara heritage, with music serving as a bridge between her cultural identity and artistic expression. Originating from Camiña in northern Chile, this enchanting locale served as both muse and catalyst, inspiring her to elevate her academic and artistic pursuits to professional heights.
